Nutritional Medicine is the study of food, its nutrients and how the diet affects health and wellbeing.
A Nutritionist views food, diet and nutritional supplements from the perspective of their therapeutic potential, providing dietary advice to clients and prescribing nutritional supplements to assist in the treatment of a broad range of health conditions.
During a nutritional consultation you will expect to be asked detailed questions about your main health concern/goal and our Nutritionist will also go through your current diet, certain body systems, health history, family history, current medications and supplements as these often relate to the underlying cause of your health concern. Some non-invasive physical tests may also be conducted which include Bioimpedance analysis, iris analysis, zinc status plus nail and tongue analysis.
After all the above information is collected a comprehensive and individualised treatment plan will then be put together in order to improve your main health concern and achieve wellness. The treatment plan may include a healthy eating plan, recipes, nutritional guidelines, supplementation and any nutritional information that may assist in helping you to achieve your health goals.
Follow up consultations are also offered to help monitor your progress and motivate you to stay on track and ensure you achieve your health goals.

ADDITIONAL/REFERRAL SCREENING
FOOD INTOLERANCE TEST
Food intolerance is your body’s abnormal reaction to certain foods. Some of the most common symptoms include severe headaches, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, tiredness, skin conditions and respiratory problems.
It is often difficult for people to tell if they have an intolerance – especially when they have been living with it for some time – as symptoms often take hours or even days to appear.
Using a small sample of blood taken from a finger prick, we can determine whether you have antibodies to specific foods in your system. We can test for:
- Cereals – corn, durum wheat, gluten, oats, rice, rye, wheat.
- Nuts and beans – almond, brazil nut, cashew, cocoa bean, peanut, soya bean, walnut and legumes including pea, lentil and haricot.
- Meats – beef, chicken, lamb and pork.
- Fish – freshwater fish (salmon, trout), shellfish (shrimp, prawn, crab, lobster, mussel), tuna, white fish (haddock, cod and Barramundi) .
- Vegetables – broccoli, cabbage, carrot, celery, cucumber, leek, peppers (red, green, yellow) and potato.
- Fruits – apple, blackcurrant, grapefruit, olive, orange, lemon, strawberry, tomato and melon (cantaloupe, watermelon)
- Other – egg (whole), cow’s milk, garlic, ginger, mushroom, tea and yeast.
DIGESTIVE STOOL ANALYSIS
Poor digestion and imbalanced gut flora may cause a number of health conditions, with symptoms ranging from constipation and bloating to diarrhoea and flatulence. This non-invasive test provides an overview of the digestive system’s absorption, intestinal function, microbial flora and pathogenic bacteria, parasites and yeasts.
HAIR TISSUE MINERAL ANALYSIS
This is a non-invasive test used to measure the level of minerals and heavy metals in your body. We simply cut a small sample of untreated, uncoloured hair from the nape of the neck or back of the scalp to test.
Minerals are essential for growth, healing, vitality and wellbeing. An imbalance in minerals can lead to conditions such as:
- Cardiovascular disease.
- High cholesterol.
- High blood pressure.
- Migraines.
- Learning difficulties and hyperactivity in children.
- Depression.
- Anxiety.
- Thyroid disorders.
While it is ideal that we get all the minerals we need from a balanced diet, modern living makes this extremely difficult. Hence, it is more important than ever to measure our mineral levels and correct them where necessary.
GENETIC TEST
Your genes contain all the information required to construct, regulate and maintain all of your bodily processes. By conducting a genetic test, we can determine your specific nutritional, lifestyle and environmental requirements to help manage any current conditions or prevent the onset of conditions in the future.
Using a cheek swab or saliva sample, we can determine if you have a predisposition to common diseases and conditions like diabetes, as well as how you metabolize nutrients and medications.
METHYLATION GENE TEST
This tests for mutations of the MTHFR gene, which is a risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, type II diabetes, obesity, recurrent miscarriage, autism spectrum disorders, depression and more.
SALIVARY HORMONE LEVELS TEST
This test requires a sample of saliva to determine hormonal imbalances and the potential impact this can have on physical and emotional health. An imbalance can result in weight gain, mood swings, night sweats, disturbed sleep patterns, loss of libido and hot flushes. Results make it possible for practitioners to individualise treatment to establish the best hormone balance for you.
